When I plan a bicycle trip using google maps, I don't even hit the 'get directions' button. I just search for my destination and kind of plan out in my head which roads I know are more bike friendly. I know to avoid highways and other roads where it's more likely for me to get murdered. I have a rough idea of some of the bigger uphills around town.
But now I can forget all about that and be a mindless google zombie!
Of course, I jest. This is really an awesome announcement, supposedly the new bicycle directions feature on google maps will try to avoid hills, and highways and whatnot in planning directions for the user. I'm really glad they've finally added this feature, since I try to ride my bike everywhere, and winter is mostly over, so I will be peddling all over town.
As usual though, Canada is behind, and I couldn't get any directions to work when I was tinkering around with it this morning for directions in Toronto. Thankfully, in this case, after commuting to and from work hundreds of times, I think I know my way around well enough to be able to get from A to B without google's help.
